The Arc provides services to help families raise their children with disabilities like autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy and intellectual delays at home, and supports adults to live in their communities, close to family, friends, work and worship.
Our funding comes largely from The Great Home Giveaway Raffle Fundraiser.

How long have you been in business?
The Arc of Winnebago, Boone & Ogle Counties was started in 1966 by parents and professionals concerned with the lack of education and other opportunties for children with developmental disabilities. The organization became a non profit charitable 501(C)(3) corporation in 1972.
What is your primary product or service?
Our primary services are:Home Based Service Facilitation, Counseling, Skills Trainings, Guardianship Assistance, Representative Payee Services, Social Events, Arts and Crafts including Beadware, Advocacy, Resource and Referral.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Most of the staff at The Arc are family members of a person with an intellectual/developmental disability. We are walking the same walk as the individuals and famililes we serve. Our goal is to help others as we have been helped by those who came before us. We pay it forward.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Unlike many other charities for people with disabilites, we specialize in those with intellectual/developmental disabilities. These disabilities are usually present at birth or before age 18, cause significant challenges in areas of daily living, and last throughout the life span.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Our office is located in Rockford IL

Our offices are in Rockford, but we serve people in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and surrounding counties.

We are a 501(C)(3) not for profit organization run by a volunteer board of directors, with an executive director managing daily operations.

Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm
